The Nag's Head on Rugeley Road, in an area of Burntwood known as Fulfen, is claimed by some to be one of the oldest public houses in Great Britain. Some sources date it back to the 11th Century and it may be listed in the Doomsday Book. Documentary records show it between 1775 and 1799. In the early 1800 it had a set of stocks set up close by. It is believed the Dr Samuel Johnson drank there whilst writing his dictionary.

The pub is currently operated by Spirit Group under its Chef & Brewer group. In 2007 it underwent a major refurbishment, re-opening in the October.

Are you pregnant or breast feeding? Burntwood breastfeeding support groups would like to welcome you

Ante-natal Breast feeding workshops are held the first Tuesday from 10am to 11am of each month at Burntwood Health Centre, Hudson Drive, Burtnwood, WS7 0EW. The workshop is designed to give advice and pratical information for those mums who are wanting to breastfeed.Post-natal Beast Feeding Support Group are held every Tuesday from 11am to 12 noon at Burntwood Health Centre. The Group offers support and advice for breast feeding to mothers and their babies. Electric breast pumps are available for hire.

Both sessions are run by local Midwives, Health Visiotrs and Healthcare support workers. There is no need to book and the sessions are free. Refreshments available. For more information speak to the Health Visitors on 01543 682817.

Lichfield Dictrict Council has published on its website its Local Development Framework, including high level plans for housing developments in and around Burntwood. PDF copies of the plans are available on this page. The consultation phase has now finished but there are several stages of the process still to be completed.

Burntwood Action GroupBHAG and Hammerwich Environmental Group are a group of concerned residents who have come together to help fight against proposed development on Green Belt land.
