Bracken House Dementia Care Centre walked away with an armful of trophies and certificates on Monday, 6 July. The county's inaugural Dignity in Care awards were held at Sandon Hall near Stafford, to recognise individuals and organisations put forward by members of the public as part of the Dignity Challenge. The Dignity Challenge aims to create a care system with a zero tolerance approach to the abuse of and disrespect towards people using care services. Bracken House won two of the five categories: The first for Independence, Choice and Control and the second for Social Inclusion. They were also highly commended in another category. County Councillor Matthew Ellis, Cabinet Member for Adults and Wellbeing attended the event. He said, "It is vital that we promote and encourage quality health and social care services in the community. "An absolute focus on the dignity of individuals is fundamental to the future of care in Staffordshire and Bracken House has shown a real commitment to providing an excellent standard of care that takes into consideration the needs of individual residents," he said. Bracken House cares for 34 older people, focusing specifically on those with dementia and other mental health conditions.
